In this thangka the central deity is surrounded in the four corners by four additional Heruka-consort pairs, each representing different aspects or emanations of the enlightened mind. These may correspond to the four directions, symbolizing the transformation of the four kleshas (mental afflictions) into the four wisdoms in tantric practice. According to Buddhist tantric traditions, meditating upon Heruka helps practitioners overcome inner fears, purify negative karma, and attain higher states of awareness. His wrathful form is not to instill fear but to cut through delusion with forceful compassion.
